What you can configure
- Year-Make-Model dropdowns - the standard, in a predictable, configurable order, with optional Part Type, Category and Engine qualifiers.
- VIN Lookup - shoppers paste a VIN and we resolve it to the right vehicle (available today with ShowMeTheParts data source).
- License-plate lookup - even faster, where the underlying data source supports plate-to-vehicle resolution (available today with ShowMeTheParts data source).
- My Garage - shoppers save multiple vehicles and switch between them; the selection persists across visits.
- Catalog search - an alternate, non-fitment search tab for stores that want category browsing alongside YMM.
- Result sorting - surface in-stock parts, preferred vendors, or specific warehouse locations first
- In-selector shopping - show pricing and let shoppers add parts to cart directly from the results
- Custom category - labels and ordering for the part-type lists
- Layout - inline or modal trigger, with an optional sticky bar; styling driven by your theme tokens
- Result behavior - filter the current collection or redirect to a fitment-aware results page
- "No fit" handling - label products that don't match the selected vehicle
Frequently asked questions
- How fast is it on a large catalog?
- Vehicle dropdowns and fitment lookups are served from indexed data so they stay fast on storefronts with hundreds of thousands of SKUs.
- Can shoppers save more than one vehicle?
- Yes. The selector includes a "My Garage" that saves multiple vehicles and lets shoppers switch between them, with the selection persisting across visits.
- Can I control which parts show up first?
- Yes. Results can be sorted to surface in-stock parts and/or preferred vendors so the most relevant options lead.
- Can shoppers buy without leaving the search?
- Yes. The selector can show pricing and an add-to-cart action on results, so a shopper can add a fitting part to the cart directly from the search.
- Does it work with my existing theme?
- The toolkit works with Shopify 2.0 compliant themes. Reach out to our team to confirm compatbility.
- What happens when a shopper picks a vehicle and lands on a product that doesn't fit?
- The product page shows a clear fitment status, and you can configure non-matching products to be hidden, dimmed with a warning, or labeled.
- Does it support VIN decoding?
- Yes — VIN and license-plate decoding are available today through ShowMeTheParts. Availability for other sources depends on whether the source provides VIN-to-vehicle resolution.
